Hooray for Hollywood! Performing on the Silver Screen 8/1-8/5/16

Learn about the contrasts between acting for theater and acting for film, as you study scenes and music from the silver screen. Be part of a fun, hands-on experience, as you develop your acting skills and your own unique performance style. This workshop also includes practical advice for careers in the field, as well as lessons and activities related to speaking and artistic expression. Present a performance to showcase your talent... on the red carpet!

Learning objectives for "Hooray for Hollywood! Performing on the Silver Screen"

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Understand the key differences between acting for stage and acting for film
  • Demonstrate acquired knowledge of the elements that comprise filming a scene ("behind the scenes" viewpoint)
  • Exhibit knowledge of repertoire and jargon related to the cinema, historical background of material
  • Demonstrate greater understanding of professional skills needed in any career in this general field
  • Exhibit poise and professionalism through interpersonal relationships
  • Demonstrate effective public speaking and oral interpretation skills
  • Understand the importance of working with others, teamwork on and off the stage
  • Demonstrate usage of creative expression through performing
  • Interpret scripts using effective emotional and creative expression, as well as basic improvisational skills

Instructors Ashley and Kristen Pettet are professional performers from Broadway, movies and television, and they are alumni of William Paterson University!
