Helping College Bound Students with Learning Disabilities: Parent Summer Series 7/25-7/28/16

Session 1: The IEP for College Bound Students

Learn to work with your district’s child study team to plan your college bound student’s Individualized Education Program in the final years of high school in order to help them develop the skills and independence they need to be independent and successful in college.

 

Session 2: Higher Education Supports and Services for Students with Disabilities

Learn about the supports and services colleges and universities must provide for students with disabilities, including learning disabilities, as well as what you and your child need to know to access these services.

 

Session 3: The Importance of Self-Advocacy

Students with learning disabilities must understand how their own learning styles impact them in a traditional classroom in order to self-advocate in college and in their careers. Learn how to help your child develop self-advocacy skills and independence in the classroom.

 

Session 4: Is College Right for my Child? Which College?

Picking a college is a tough decision for every family, but picking the right college for a child with learning disabilities is even tougher. Talk with professionals about how to help your child decide if college is the right choice for them and learn about the questions to ask when looking at colleges.

Each night there will be time to schedule an individual 15-minute meeting with a special education professor who has years of experience with IEPs and program planning in Special Education.
