Cutting
Cutting, deliberate self-injury, is an inability to cope, in healthy ways, with emotional pain, intense anger or frustration. An estimated one in five females and one in seven males engage in self-injury behavior. Ms. Batista will identify the prevalence of cutting in pre-teens and adolescents, describe risk factors, possible causes and warning signs. She will discuss the range of treatment and support options, including strategies that involve both individuals and communities.
