11th Annual Adolescent Summer Literacy Institute 7/10, 7/11, 7/12/2017

This 3 day interactive institute is designed for teachers, reading specialists, coaches, librarians, and supervisors. This year’s theme is focused on diversity and the use of culturally responsive and relevant literature in classrooms to expand and cultivate respect for and among various groups.

FEATURED PRESENTERS INCLUDE  

 

Marina Budhos, an award-winning author of fiction and nonfiction.

In 2016 she published Watched, an extraordinary and timely novel examines what it’s like to grow up under surveillance, something many Americans experience and most Muslim Americans know.  This follow up to her earlier book, Ask Me Know Questions, garnered multiple awards including:

2016-17 Asian/Pacific American Award Honor Book,
The Walter Award, Honor Book for YA,
A Notable Book for a Global Society (NBGS),
CCBC Choices Award Selection for YA Fiction,
2017 YALSA Quick Pick For Reluctant Readers,

Daniel Jose Older, also an award-winning YA author.

Daniel has written the YA novel Shadowshaper, a New York Times Notable Book of 2015, which was shortlisted for the Kirkus Prize in Young Readers’ Literature, the Andre Norton Award, the Locus, the Mythopoeic Award, the International Latino Book Award, and named one of Esquire’s 80 Books Every Person Should Read.
