NK Architects

Founded in 1972, NK Architects is an award-winning, full-service design firm dedicated to providing our clients with appropriate and creative solutions that support their mission and add lasting value to their organization.

In 2012, NK Architects began an ongoing relationship with William Paterson University through the design and construction of University Hall. This transformational new academic building was the first in a series of projects identified by the University to renew an aging campus core. The result is a building that is respectful of its rich historical context while embodying the aspirations of the University’s future. As a LEED™ Gold building, University Hall furthers William Paterson’s commitment to sustainability and creates a healthy learning environment with unique features such as an outdoor terrace and green roof.

Growing out of the success of University Hall, NK Architects was retained by the University to continue the partnership by renovating and renewing the University’s two oldest academic buildings in Preakness and Hunziker Halls. Design challenges included unifying two distinctly different buildings, engaging and elevating the surrounding exterior spaces and circulation patterns within the larger campus context, and reshaping two heritage buildings into contemporary learning environments.

As a New Jersey based, regional design firm with a legacy of commitment to the communities that we serve, it is an honor to receive William Paterson University’s 2019 Legacy Award for Distinguished Organizations. We are proud of our continued support of the University and its community through events like the Legacy Award Gala, the Foundation’s annual Golf Outing, and also through the many unique experiences we have shared, such as lecturing in professor Nikki Davi’s Environmental Sciences class and leading tours of University Hall for University and local sustainability groups. We look forward to building on this commitment to the University and its community for years to come.
