Kevin Burkhardt '97

Kevin Burkhardt '97 A 1997 graduate of William Paterson University with a bachelor's degree in communication, Kevin Burkhardt is one of the play-by-play voices for the NFL on FOX. He is the face of FOX Sports’ pre and post-game coverage throughout the MLB regular season, post season and World Series, and is a two-time Emmy winner as a studio host of the World Series on FOX.

Burkhardt started his broadcasting career on the William Paterson campus, covering Pioneer athletic events for the University's television channel. He also hosted "Newsline," a twice-a-week live news show broadcast on campus and to the surrounding community. His first job after graduation was at WGHT-AM in Pompton Lakes. He also served as the public address voice for William Paterson men’s and women’s basketball games.

While struggling to earn enough money in sports broadcasting to support his family, he became a car salesman for a local car dealership. In 2003, he decided to give his dream of earning a living as a sports broadcaster one last shot when he caught a break at WCBS-AM in New York City, working part-time shifts on sports updates. Until then, Burkhardt worked in local radio, including calling minor league baseball for four years for the New Jersey Jackals. After working at the car dealership, he landed a job with WFAN, the biggest sports station in the country, as a talk show host, doing 20/20 updates and contributing as the New York Jets reporter.

In 2007, Burkhardt made the move to SNY to be the field reporter for the New York Mets, a position he held for eight years. In 2009, he joined Compass Media, calling NFL games nationally on the radio before becoming the lead voice for the Dallas Cowboys in 2011 and 2012.

Burkhardt has stayed in touch with his alma mater and has spoken to many broadcast journalism students throughout the years. He was William Paterson's 2014 commencement speaker and met with several alumni while he was the on-field reporter for the New York Mets. He and his wife Rachel are supporters of the John Rhodes Scholarship, and are also currently working on establishing the Kevin and Rachel Burkhardt Scholarship for a broadcast journalism student.

When he was in his last semester at William Paterson, Burkhardt met his wife, Rachel Blanken Burkhardt '98 at a WPTV broadcast meeting. While he broadcast many of the football games on WPTV, she controlled the audio in the TV truck. His brother Brian also graduated from William Paterson in 2003.

Burkhardt, his wife Rachel, and son Logan currently reside in Los Angeles.
