Reading and Writing Enrichment for Grades 4-8 , 3/2/19, 3/9/19, 3/16/19 & 3/23/19

This class is designed to enhance each student's reading and writing skills-sets by the use of learning tasks that will promote student development in this content area. Students will participate in mini-lessons that are specifically created for each grade-level to target and challenge them to improve upon their reading and writing skills in correlation with New Jersey Student Learning Standards. There will also be an opportunity for students to bring in school assignments to work on with the instructor, as this Saturday enrichment course will consist of whole class instruction to teach reading and writing as well as individualized learning modules designed in the form of student-teacher conferencing to further enhance student learning.

 The first half of this class is dedicated to enhance each student's reading skills. The class is segmented into lessons that focus upon close reading techniques for short reading passages and novel excerpts. Each student will engage in reading the text with the teacher, their peers, and independently. Learning vocabulary, understanding context, and discussing the main idea and theme of each reading assignment will be demonstrated and practiced throughout each Saturday session. Each classroom activity is differentiated to ensure that each child's learning needs are met and enhanced by the end of this course.

The second half of this class is designed to enhance each student's writing skills. Each class session is segmented into mini lessons that focus on writing, editing, and grammar usage. Each student will develop writing pieces for a variety of purposes and edit those written compositions with the use of techniques learned in this class. The teacher will conference with each student to ensure that their writing is being developed to the best of their ability. The students in this class will be able to use the writing and editing skills they develop throughout the school year.

Not only will your child benefit from the reading and writing skills they acquire in this course, but they will also have the opportunity to demonstrate those skills to the class through a variety of classroom activities!
